A domain hack is an unconventional domain name that combines domain levels, especially the top-level domain (TLD), to spell out the full "name" or title of the domain, making a kind of pun. Well-known examples include blo.gs, del.icio.us, and cr.yp.to. In this context, the "hack" represents a trick (as in programming), not an exploit or break-in (as in security). Domains such as .as, .it, .me, or .us are easy to use as domain hacks because they correspond to short, simple dictionary words. Alternately, a name is chosen so that the last few characters match an existing top-level domain, such as "inter.net", so that every character is used in forming the common name. Domain hacks offer the ability to produce extremely short domain names. For example, blo.gs has a total of only five letters (versus blogs.com, at eight letters), as every letter is taken into account as the site's title. This makes them potentially valuable as redirectors (like i.am, which redirects to FortuneCity's V3 service) and as base domains from which to delegate subdomains. From Wikipedia under the

I thought I would just use it as a file or standalone server since we only have 7 active workstations in the office and I thought Active Directory might be overkill.Then I found out that SBS won't let you do that, it only likes to be a domain controller (unless someone knows a hack to demote it) the problem/question is: Everyone (as well as me) wants to keep their present desktops/user profiles including their fav email client, programs, desktop icons..ect. Is there a way to log onto the domain but not change anything on the workstations? This would be so awesome if I could figure this out.. Further, when you properly connect computers to the SBS domain, using the link, the wizard will allow you to migrate your local profiles to the new user account domain profiles. If you just right click my computer and add it to the domain, then you're not setting things up properly and are ASKING for trouble. SBS works GREAT - if you use the wizards and set it up properly. (This is why it's always a good idea to install it a few times to LEARN the processes it uses AND to hire a consultant if you don't care to learn it so that it gets done RIGHT. Q. I have a Domain that has a server that accepts faxes using a 6 port modem. After considering it for sometime I am still unsure if this is a security hazard. Is it possible for someone to dial into my windows firewalled machine pretending to be a fax and compromise my machine and network? I have set up pretty solid security standards here and would hate to have such a easily preventable breach occur. The way I see it is they would have to initiate a connection over the phone line, pretend to be a fax and then that line would be connected to my machine, which has no protection from the outside environment. I mean it is firewalled but I don't know if that applies to the fax port. I dont know...give me some input PLEASE!
