A domain hack (sometimes known as a domain name hack) is an unconventional domain name that combines domain levels, especially the top-level domain (TLD), to spell out the full "name" or title of the domain. Well-known examples include blo.gs, del.icio.us, cr.yp.to, retou.ch, and goo.gl.

In this context, the "hack" represents a trick (as in programming), not an exploit or break-in (as in security).

Domains such as .as, .it, .me, .us, or .co (American Samoa, Italy, Montenegro, United States, or Colombia respectively) are easy to use as domain hacks because they correspond to short, simple dictionary words. Alternatively, a name is chosen so that the last few characters match an existing top-level domain, such as "inter.net", so that every character is used in forming the common name.

Domain hacks offer the ability to produce extremely short domain names. For example, blo.gs has a total of only five letters (versus blogs.com, at eight letters), as every letter is taken into account as the site's title.

This makes them potentially valuable as redirectors (like i.am, which redirects to FortuneCity's V3 service), as pastebins and as base domains from which to delegate subdomains. Also short domains are useful for URL shortening services.

A. Yes, you can also use Godaddy or any other registrar for your domain name registration. You can also get a pretty good deal (with a free domain name included) from Fatcow or Powweb. More info at If you want to get hosting from Hostgator they're also great but they're a bit more expensive and they don't include a free domain name so it's a little harder to set everything up if you want to use a 3rd party domain name registrar. They're great if you want to pay monthly though. Here's how to sign-up with them and even get the $9.94 discount for the first month: 1. Go to and click on Hostgator's AUTUMN discount coupon 2. Click on Sign Up Now! button. 3. Since you already have a domain name (which you bought from name.com or godaddy, or… [cont.]

A. The IP address you listed ( 75.125.59.2) is from Houston, Texas. You can look it up on the website below. Enter the IP in the Reverse DNS Lookup section of the page. I did just out of curiosity, and it said Houston. It also gave a website associated with the IP: ns1.siteground219.com Hope that helps some.
