How to transfer domain name ownership to someone else?
Q. I purchased this domain name last year to use in a project, and I don't need it anymore, and someone offered to buy it from me. Now, What is the right way to transfer this domains ownership to him so my my personal information and my billing information wouldn't be associated with the domain??

A. Contact the registrar about transferring ownership. Not all have the same procedures, and they may require you to request a transfer in writing.

How can I transfer a domain name to a new registrar?
Q. I have requested my ISP to cancell my web hosting account before its expiration date(October this year)because I want to join a new web hosting company. The current ISP has already cancelled the web hosting account but has refused to give me the information on how to change DNS and how to transfer my domain name to a new domain registrar/web hosting company.

A. Contact the new ISP, and tell them you want the domain transferred. They will then contact your previous ISP, which in turn will contact you to authorize the transfer. At least this is how it's supposed to work. Sometimes, though, the previous ISP is not to eager to help transferring the domain.

How do I transfer my domain name and IP address to another web host?
Q. I was using a web host who lost my entire website.(long story, won't explain.) I want to go with someone locally, but according to the TOS from this first host, IP addresses that they registered are their property and I can't transfer it. I thought as soon as I registered the domain name, it became mine until it expired. How do I go about transfering my domain name so I can begin building my website again?

A. You can actually change website hosts almost easily. Just sign up with a new one, get the new nameservers from them, and input them into your domain name registration. Here's one potential catch, though: see if the domain name is registered to you. Go to www.iwhois.com, type the domain name in the search bar, then hit Lookup. Look at the field "registrant" and administrative contact. If both fields show that of the host, you're in big trouble. If the registrant and admin contact fields show yours, then you're somewhat fine. But your host might not give you the ability to change hosts just like that, especially if you didn't read the fine prints prior to signing up. Bottom line: hope for the best, but expect the worst.
