Where can I find a good Private-Label Domain Name reseller programme?
Q. I am looking to join a private label Domain Name reseller programme which offers registration of international domains (.co.nz, .com.au, .co.uk, .com, .net, etc...) and also does not require a setup fee, monthly fee or deposit. The programme must include a control panel for admin and clients and also an API or some other way to allow for my clients to search for domains names from MY own website. Austdomains.com.au offers exactly what I need but has terrible support, so your help to find another good reseller programme would be great!

What to do to start a webhosting business (through a reseller program) and be able to sell .ca domain names?
Q. I live in Canada (in Quebec) and I am interested in starting a web-hosting business through a reseller company located in the USA (hostdepartment). How do I do that? And how can I be able to sell .ca domain names? What steps to follow?

A. The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in. I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box. Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links. Research, research, research this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. I also have developed my own E-commerce website, therefore I would prefer a supplier that has a flexible control panel that allow me to resell my own product as well as their Payment Gateway product. A. Directi's ResellerClub API is relatively simple to put into use. It is flexible enough to let you bundle products & services. You can sell your own product and at the same time include some of ResellerClub s products. ResellerClub API comes with a specification, client side kits, sample forms, sample code and complete documentation. PHP, Perl, ASP.NET and Java client side kits available.

How do the domain name/hosting companies register websites?
Q. You're probably going to say "from a reseller." Well, if they get it from a reseller, then how do they register websites? There has to be some kind of code or something to assign domains. Thanks, austinyb I mean, how do the companies register?
Asked by Austin B - Sun Sep 30 21:06:22 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In a (somewhat lengthy) nutshell: There are three entities relevant to the domain name, there's the registrant, the registrar, and the registry. The registry operates the database that stores all of the domain names and their server information. This information is pushed out to root zone servers so that the domain names can resolve. For .com and .net, the Registry is VeriSign, Inc. You can see who the registries for all the different types of domain names are at The organization that decides who gets to operate the registries is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). The registrar is the company that registers the domain name in the registry database. Melbourne It and Network Solutions (as well as… [cont.]

domain name stolen by hosting company?
Q. I paid for a domain name & hosting, and I prepaid annually. It was fine since 2002 Last fall new company bought out old company and didn't tell anyone. They didn't send out rewal notices. My two sites were shut down. I contacted them repeatedly and they don't reply. The few times they did write back theyd "look into it" and it's still not fixed. Turns out the original company put the ownership and all the control in THEIR name even know I paid for the name. New company locked it so I can't alter or move my name. I contacted the upper level reseller, godaddy.com, for help. They had me fill out forms, which I did; no reply back. Other then that, to get your site back, you can use to find out who the contact person is and see they'll do anything, but you probably heading up creek without a paddle in a leaky boat - Get my meaning??? A. Some hosting sites might charge you for repointing the DNS Name Servers to their hosting, but most likely not. I don't think Godaddy charges (www.godaddy.com), so I highly suggest just calling their tech support and speaking with a service rep. They are very friendly, and I find that Godaddy has great service and hosting plans. Good luck!

A. I've had problems with Beta recently, and have reverted back to Classic. try this: My work-around is to use the old classic Yahoo Mail until it is fixed. Log out of all Yahoo sites. Go to this site: That should put you into a login screen. Login, and it will then put you into the Beta introductory offer. Click "No thanks, remind me later" and that should get your account to revert back to Yahoo Mail "classic". See if that gets you in.

Questions about reseller web hosting?
Q. I'm thinking of doing reseller web hosting, perhaps with HostGator. I understand that I pay a monthly fee for my account, and keep 100% of the profits made. So, does this mean I don't need any fancy equipment? Can I easily manage customer accounts and create domain names? Also, what should I do for customer support? I can do it via e-mail, but I won't be available 24/7.

A. Hello There! A reseller hosting account is just that; space on a web server to create accounts. You won't be able to create domains with it, for that you'd need to have a domain reseller account, such as enom.com. You will be able to manage your accounts by your "WHM" or web hosting manager... For support, you can do it by email, if your just starting you can have the emails forward to your phone and have a response time when you see them. I have a reseller account at hostfever.com, and love it. They helped me set up my site the whole way through... They will also get you hooked up with a complete billing system. You can order their reseller plans at and use coupon code: 20OFF09 to get 20% off your first order. Hoped this helped. (BTW… [cont.]

A. If your domain name is in the expiration process you can not transfer registrars. This is an ICANN rule not the registrars. If you want the name renew it as quickly as possible before it completes the expiration process and becomes available for anyone to register. After you have renewed the name you can transfer it to any registrar you want. Yes it is possible and very common to register your domain name with one company and have it hosted by another. To establish your own domain name registration and web hosting site (not a reseller) is possible however it would be very expensive. To become a reseller is easy and requires no technical knowledge, the company you are selling for will provide all the customer service and tech support.… [cont.]

Domain Suspended?
Q. Tried getting my emails from my domain for the past 3 days but this message appears when I type in my site address to view my website; "This account has been suspended. Either the domain has been overused, or the reseller ran out of resources." Who do I contact in regards to getting my domain back the company who owns the domain name or my the company that does my hosting?
Asked by sheila_sutra - Thu Feb 8 10:32:32 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That message is typically generated by the hosting provider. I'd check with the website hosting provider first before contacting your domain provider, and that's if they're separate. Two common reasons that message occurs is either due to a billing issue, or your website is using "too much" of your allotted resources by your host. Your host can give more specifics.

Can I have a domain (like www.domain.com) point to a folder on my web server, like (www.server.com/domain)?
Q. I'd like to run another website on my web server. I want to use at least two unique domains. Basically, if someone enters the new domain, say domain.com, it's really accessing a folder on my server (say server.com/domain/, but the url looks like the user is on the domain.com website. I don't have web hosting software that manages multiple accounts like a professional reseller web host. Is there something I setup with the domain name company, and use like a "virtual host" or something like that?
Asked by D - Thu Feb 7 13:37:11 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It depends on what you're referring to when you say "my server". Are we talking about a physical machine at your location? If so, then a specific answer will depend on the software. If Apache, then you'll want to learn the directives and look at the files in the "conf" directory. If we're talking about a web hosting account, then if you have cPanel, you'll want to look at the Add-on Domain and possibly Parked Domain features.

A. Go to iwhois.com, type the domain name on the search box, and click Search. Then scroll down the results and look at the part where it says something like "Domain servers" or "DNS servers". If it says something like ns1.yourhost.com and ns2.yourhost.com, note the yourhost.com part of it. Usually that's the domain name of the hosting provider. So if it said something like ns1.hostgator.com and ns2.hostgator.com, then the host domain is hostgator.com. That belongs to Hostgator, which is a well-known hosting provider around here as well. On the other hand, it seems your main concern is really the domain name. Look at the WHOIS results again and check the line "registrar". The line "registrar" indicates who really registered the domain… [cont.]

A. The domain you mention (ressellerpanel.com) is not currently registered, so you probably did not do it properly... Noone can just "take it" from you if you legitimately register it, but they can make a claim for patent/copyright infringement if it in fact infringes on their validly protected names. A mere misspelling is NOT sufficient to prove infringement, however!
