What salad dressing can you make with pasta salad?

How to make a really good salad?
Q. I love salads when I'm out to eat. I love salad, I really do. Except when I'm at home. If I have stuff to make a salad at home, I have zero desire to eat a salad. I think I just need to make it more appealing. So, what do you put in a really good, but really healthy salad? What's a good, but not too fattening dressing? I've heard that you need some fat in the dressing to get the full nutrient value from the salad. What's the best choice for lots of flavor?

A. The 2 most important things are: the freshest ingredients (be creative and put in what you love) and the best dressing you can make or get. Olive oil is good for you and the best base for a lot of dressings. Spike your salad oil with fresh herbs or crushed garlic and pepper. Use fruit, rice, wine, or herbed vinegars. Have mayo and different mustards for dressings, and fresh herbs galore. Dried can work if you can let the dressing sit a while before using. Learn to make your own dressings from recipes that look good. Cut up your ingredients ahead of time for convenience, but on the spot for freshest taste. I love olives, marinated things like peppers, fresh heart of palm, celery, ripe tomato, avocado, garlic, jicama, raisins, nuts,… [cont.]

Why does my broccoli salad taste more salad dressingish than others?
Q. I followed my boyfriend's Grandmother's recipe for Broccoli Salad exactly and it taste a little more salad dressingish than others I have tasted. I have tried this recipe when she made it and it was delicious (and tasted normal), that's why I asked for it. Here is the dressing part of the recipe. 1 cup miracle whip salad dressing, 3 tbsp vinegar, and 1/2 cup sugar. Can someone help me figure out what to do? Thank you!
Asked by Kelley - Thu May 7 19:25:32 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Since Miracle Whip is already sweet I would cut the sugar down to 1/4 cup and increase the vinegar to 4-5 Tablsp. Then limit how much you put on. Keep adding a little at a time till it gets how you like it.

What is the most unusual potato salad you have ever had?
Q. We have always, in the summer months, managed to get together with friends at one of the public parks, and someone always brings that summer staple, potato salad. I have noticed, though, that this dish is one of those that brings out the bizarre creative side in people. One time, I ate potato salad with halved red grapes in it... So, do any of you have unusual potato salad experiences? Do you have your own unusual way of making potato salad?

A. I love my mother's potato salad, and the only unusual experience I ever had was after eating some that had been outside for too long! (Long night afterwards!) Nothing exotic about my mother's recipe, but it is the best I have ever had. The red grapes sound lovely, though!

Q. I have a bag of Dole Spring Mix salad kit. According to the bag it contains a blend of baby lettuces, greens, endive, and radicchio. I just don't feel like eating another salad anymore, and don't want this to go to waste. Can I use these in some kind of soup? How?

A. sure u can. my wife does this often with a chicken base. she likes to add these asian noodles. they are kinda a clear jelly 10 inch noodle but great filler. just get your soup stock ready then towards time to eat let the greens cook a few minutes on simmer to soften up. adds a distinct flavor. enjoy

How do you make your tuna salad?
Q. I usually mix mine with mayo and pickle juice, well, that's getting old. I'd like something new! I've heard of some people mixing salad dressing with tuna? Is that any good? And how do you mix yours? Do you like it on bread, or salad? Please give me some tuna salad recipes! All of you gave excellent recipes by the way! Thanks to everyone!

A. I use just a little bit of mayonnaise, some olive oil, salt, pepper. In addition to the tuna, I add celery (diced fine), black olives, maybe some caramelized onion. I also like to add some grated Parmesan cheese. I like it with a nice crusty bread another nice tuna trick (though not exactly a salad), throw some hard grating cheese (I like Zamorano or Pecorino Romano) into a blender with some garlic and get it nice and chopped. Blend in canned tuna, olive oil, and hummus, and serve with tortilla chips (I like to use home made - cut flour tortillas it wedges, throw 'em in a hot pan of oil until golden brown and crisp, then sprinkle them with salt)

How to prepare the salad ingredients?
Q. I am not sure how to prepare salad ingredients, if I bought some vegetables from the supermarket, what do i do to the vegetables? can i just put them into the fridge without wrapping paper? And if i feel like taking them out to make some salad, shall i wash all the vegetables just with running tap water or should i soak them in the water for a 15 mins?? Or are there any more procedure to take note of? Im preparing salad with ingredients like, 1 cup of spinach and romaine leaves, broccoli, carrots, cherry tomatoes, green and red peppers, beets.. I bought the vegetables(randomly pick) and then when i came back home I just feel sad because I doesnt even know what to do the ingredients..

A. Generally speaking you should probably okay with leaving the veggies in the fridge in the plastic bags for a couple of days or so. When you're ready to use them (or in a couple of days after you buy them) take the broccoli and the romaine leaves and soak them in water for 2-4 minutes. Agitate the greens a couple of times then let sit for 1-2 more minutes to let the dirt settle. Gently remove the greens, try not to disturb the dirt ont he bottom of the water, and dry. For the carrots, bell peppers, tomatoes, and beets wash them under running water and pat dry before cutting them up.

Can I eat a salad before bed?
Q. I am on a low carb diet and things have been going okay. I feel as though I hit a little plateau. I get hungry at night due to the lack of food I eat in the day, so just wondering if I will gain weight by eating a salad at night. The salad is lettuce, tomatoes, table spoon of cheese, tea spoon of creaser dressing, lemon juice, and 1 table spoon of croutons.
Asked by 1-2-Succeed - Tue Jan 9 03:45:20 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well it depends on how much calories the salad contains in all & how much you have eaten during the day - doesn't sound bad to me though. Eating right before bedtime makes you prone to acid reflux problem if you do not have it already. So watch out especially with the lemon juice.

How long can salad be left out?
Q. Okay I go to school, and I want to make a salad for lunch. If I made a salad in the morning before school ,6:00 am , put in the fridge until 7:15. Could it last until lunch which is about 9:45? The salad is a chicken salad. Lettuce, dressing, boiled eggs, tomatoes, chicken, onions, cheese, and peppers. Will it last? Thank you . So if I put the dressing/tomatoes in seperate containers, then toss them in when I'm ready to eat it should be okay?

A. Your salad should be fine. The refrigerator keeps things at 40 degrees, so it will take a long time before your salad becomes bad. You might like to put your dressing into a separate container, though. It can wilt lettce leaves and make your salad mushy. You're making me hungry for lunch!

How long does homemade potato salad last in the refrigerator?
Q. Just curious because I've eaten homemade potato salad that was in the fridge for more than maybe 2 weeks I think.. I mean it didn't look or taste bad. I only threw the salad away when mold started growing on it. So, mainly, is something still good to eat as long as it doesn't show any signs of spoilage?

A. usually everthing has its self life and it is known that nothing is good to eat as good as fresh food, but obvious things which are not fresh will not give the same taste, nutrition which you will get by fresh food I advice not to go for for refrigirated food for more than 2-3 days if 4-10 digree celcius we cannot see the bad effect of food with naked eyes so if food looking and tasting normal does'nt mean it is normal, if you want to eat also take precaution boil it for 1 minute atleast or microwave for more than 100 degree

Salad suggestions for a girl scout event?
Q. I need to take a salad to a girl scout picnic so I want to try and find something that isn't overly "grownup". Any suggestions? I'm tired of the traditional mayo-based potato and/or macaroni salad.
